He says a large part of their reopening process was making sure they had a safe experience available to visitors. Many humanities organizations were forced to either shut down or cut back on staffing due to the pandemic. “So many organizations had gatherings every year where they were bringing people together as part of their fundraising operations, and many of those events have been canceled or scaled way down,” Keira said. She says the relief funds come as many organizations are struggling with lack of funding and lack of income from programming. Keira is the president and CEO of Indiana Humanities. “These funds allow us to put much-needed resources into Indiana communities, where they can be used to strengthen humanities organizations and the programming they provide to Hoosiers.” Congress has sent the message that the humanities are essential to our recovery from the impact of COVID-19,” said Keira Amstutz.
